Who Can Write For Us
Anyone who has a real interest in life in the UK is invited to join us. We would prefer real people with real opinions, regardless of whether you are an experienced writer or submitting your first piece. If you care about what’s going on and can communicate what you see, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
Don’t worry about being “professional”. Your point of view is more important to us than your CV. Describe what you see and how you feel in your words.
What We Want
We want stories that matter. Let us know what we should be covering or if you have a story you think we should tell. Ensure your piece has something to say. Don’t just restate the familiar — try to bring your thoughts or experiences.
Consider what is going to make somebody stop and want to read. Is it a local problem, that needs to be addressed? A new trend in town? An honest personal story? We love those.
Tone and Style
Write like you talk. No fancy words or jargon. Keep it friendlier and easier to read. Pretend you’re explaining it to a friend in a conversation over a drink in a pub. Keep paragraphs short and use clear headings to make it easy to follow.
Don’t be concerned about sounding “formal” or “academic.” We’re not after essays. We want clear, straightforward, personal writing that any reader can enjoy.
Length
Most write-ups will be 600 to 1,000 words. If you’ve got something bigger to work with, we’re also interested in longer features. Just keep it focused and don’t ramble.
If you don’t know how long it should be, ask us. We’re glad to help you sort it out.
Absolutely No AI-Generated Writing
We don’t publish anything that’s generated using AI tools. We want your actual voice in your own words. If it sounds robotic or like it’s copied and pasted from a machine, we will not run it. Readers come to this website for honest, human writing — so let us have it.
That means no AI drafts, no computerised rewrites, and no shortcuts. Have a seat and write it yourself. That’s how your work is unique.
Be Original
Your writing needs to be your own work. No copying from other sites or writers. If you are relying on facts, quotes, or stats, say where you found them. We’re never going to run something that has been run somewhere else.
Originality doesn’t mean you have to be groundbreaking—just honest and yours.
Images
If you submit photos or other images, please make sure that you own the rights to those images. Always give credit if someone else created them. Let us know who shot the photo and what we’re looking at.
You don’t need to include images, but they can really help bring your piece alive.
Accuracy
Check your facts. Get people’s names right. Verify that dates and numerals are accurate. If you aren’t certain of something, communicate you’re not or omit it. We want to avoid mistakes.
If you quote someone, make sure you’ve got it right. Small mistakes can lead to big blunders.
Respect
We don’t want to publish anything hateful or bigoted. Show displeasure with ideas, not by getting personal. Keep it fair. Consider how your words will affect people’s perceptions.
We’re happy to host strong opinions, but they need to be respectful and responsible.
Edits
Our editors may make some suggestions to help your piece read better. Don’t worry—it’s normal. We will always keep your voice intact and produce a clear, polished recording.
We will share our edits and always give you an opportunity to review them before it goes live.
Conflicts and Disclosures
If you have personal or financial connections to what you’re writing about, please disclose them. Let’s be up front with readers. Honesty keeps trust.
If you’re writing about your own business or employer, be explicit about that as well.
How to Submit
- Send us a brief description of your idea by email. A few sentences is enough.
- We’ll respond in a couple of days.
- If we like it, we’ll request your whole draft.
- Once you send it in, we may edit it and send it back for approval before publishing.
If you don’t know what a pitch is, then just tell us what you want to write an article about in regular English. We’ll guide you from there.
After It’s Live
Share your post if you want. You are welcome to engage with readers in the comments. Help spread the word.
We really love when writers hang out and join the community. If you like writing for us, keep pitching stories.
In short: Be real. Be clear. Be yourself. That’s what we aspire to deliver at TheUKJournal.
Send your pitch to contact@theukjournal.co.uk. We can’t wait to read it.
