Sofia Vergara’s Workout: How She Actually Stays Fit at 52

Published on November 26, 2025 by susiemccoy

Sofia Vergara exercise routine isn’t what you’d expect. She’s not obsessed with the gym. She doesn’t eat only salads. At 52, she looks better than people half her age whilst actually enjoying life.

Her motto? “No pain, no cake!” She’s said loads of times that working out isn’t her passion. But she does it anyway because it keeps her healthy and lets her eat what she wants.

The Pilates Thing

Sofia’s go-to is Pilates on the Lagree Fitness Megaformer machine. Not basic mat Pilates. The Megaformer is intense, as it strengthens the core and increases flexibility. Builds longer muscles instead of bulk. Helps prevent injuries, relieves back pain.

“Treadmills and ellipticals get boring fast,” Sofia told People. “And if you’re dreading cardio, 20 minutes feels like two hours.”

So she does dance cardio instead. Turns up the music and lets everything go. Makes working out less painful.

Working With Trainer Jennifer Yates

Sofia’s trainer Jennifer Yates keeps it simple. They work out 5-7 days a week when the filming schedule allows. When she’s busy, she takes time off. Rest matters.

“Twice a week we’ll do bum exercises because that’s the area she really loves,” Yates says. “Couple times we do upper body and abs.”

Most sessions are 30 minutes. That’s it. Yates reckons 2-3 times a week is enough for most people.

“It’s not about looking a certain way or losing weight. Being active helps with stress and staying healthy.”

Sofia Vergara Exercise Routine Breakdown

Sofia focuses on bodyweight exercises. Crunches, planks, lunges, squats. No fancy equipment.

  • Elevator Lunges: Stand in lunge position. Slide one leg to standing, back to lunge. Two minutes on each side. Uses gliding discs, but towels work.
  • Dumbbell Wall Sit: Squat against the wall, holding a dumbbell. Hold for 60 seconds. Put the dumbbell down and squat for another minute. It burns but is brilliant for legs and bum.
  • Plank to Pike: Hold plank on forearms. Towel under feet. Slide toes to nose by lifting hips. Four count up, four count down. One minute.
  • Hip Thrusts and Squats: Sofia loves these for building curves. Goes low, drives back up using legs and glutes.
  • Lateral Raises and Shoulder Presses: For the upper body. Keeps things balanced.

Cardio She Doesn’t Hate

Sofia hates running. Bad knees, plus boring. So she found alternatives. Walking on a treadmill with a high incline works the legs without the stress of running. Easier on joints.

Spinning burns calories and keeps the heart healthy. Loves spin classes.

Dance cardio is her current favourite. Way more fun than a treadmill.

“Find something you really love,” Sofia says. “Whether it’s surfing, biking or jumping on trampolines. When you have fun, it’s easier to commit.”

Sofia Vergara Thyroid Diet and Health

Sofia was 28 when she got thyroid cancer and she had to get her thyroid removed. Now, she has hypothyroidism, which basically means not enough thyroid hormone. Not having enough thyroid hormone makes weight management trickier, causes weight gain and fatigue and makes losing fat very hard.

Sofia Vergara’s thyroid diet emphasises foods that can promote thyroid function without any sort of strict restrictions. She’s the spokeswoman for “Follow the Script”, which educates about hypothyroidism. Managing it means daily medication and being mindful about diet and exercise.

Sofia Vergara Diet Philosophy

Sofia Vergara diet is moderate, as she eats vegetables and drinks healthy juices. Lean proteins. Balanced meals.

But she’s got a massive sweet tooth. Loves cake. Doesn’t deny herself treats. “Everything in moderation,” she told Fox News. “Not too much food, not too much exercise, not too much anything.”

Doesn’t do strict diets; rather, nourishes her body while enjoying meals. Most days, she eats well. Some day,s pizza or cake. That balance keeps her sane long-term.

Sofia Vergara Daily Routine

When filming, Sofia Vergara daily routine means working out between scenes. 30 minutes here, 30 minutes there.

She prioritises sleep. “I think it’s important when you do the kind of job I do that you sleep well,” she has said this in many of her interviews. Beauty rest matters on camera.

She started seriously working out in her 40s. Before that, I was more casual about fitness. Hitting 40 made her realise she needed consistency.

How Does Sofia Vergara Stay So Young?

How does Sofia Vergara stay so young-looking? Loads of factors.

Consistent exercise even when she doesn’t feel like it. Balanced diet with treats. Plenty of sleep. Managing the thyroid properly.

But also genetics, skincare, and good genes. She’s Colombian with naturally beautiful skin.

She’s realistic too. Doesn’t try to look 25. Embraces being in her 50s whilst taking care of herself.

Sofia Vergara Husband and Motivation

Sofia Vergara’s husband, Justin Saliman, is an orthopaedic surgeon. Got engaged in 2023, married in 2024. Before that, she was married to Joe Manganiello from 2015 to 2023.

Her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen inspired workout habits. Bowen makes no excuses. Goes running before set calls early morning.

“Seeing how motivated she is… I started to think more about it,” Sofia said. Sometimes you need that friend pushing you.

Sofia Vergara Workout Clothes

Sofia Vergara workout clothes are practical. Not full makeup and designer gear at the gym. She wears comfortable leggings, sports bras, and trainers. Function over fashion when working out. Saves glamour for red carpets.

Sofia Vergara Weight and Height

Sofia stands 5’7″ (170cm) and maintains a curvy figure. Sofia Vergara weight and height stay consistent because she focuses on balance instead of crash diets or extreme workouts.

She’s got an endomorph body type. Builds muscle easily but also holds onto fat more than some people. Figured out what works for her specifically.

What You Can Learn

Sofia’s strategy is successful because it’s sustainable. Not two-hour sessions at the gym or 1,200 calories. Exercises for 30 minutes most days. Eats balanced meals with treats. Takes time off when it’s busy. Focuses on exercises she’s able to do regularly.

You don’t need a costly piece of equipment or an expensive gym membership for lunges, squats, planks and wall sits. Do them at home with towels and resistance bands. Her cardio choices are acts of enjoyment, such as dancing.

She doesn’t force herself to run when she clearly hates it. Created this routine over the years, as she learnt what works for her body and her schedule, considering various health conditions. That’s the message — you have to find what works for you.

Bottom Line

Sofia Vergara exercise routine proves you don’t need to kill yourself at the gym to look brilliant at 52. Regular moderate exercise beats sporadic intense workouts.

Balance beats restriction. Rest days matter. Finding workouts you enjoy matters. Taking care of health issues matters.

Sofia’s not selling a miracle programme or secret supplement. Just showing up regularly, doing exercises that work for her body, eating reasonably, and not taking herself too seriously.

“No pain, no cake” sums it up. Do the work so you can enjoy life. That’s a fitness philosophy anyone can get behind.
